NOTE: Syncronized rolling heads are used when rolled parts must be precise and consistent, especially when they must fit a mating part, and when a part is long and not rigid enough to knurl with a single knurl. Gears are used to position the die teeth correctly so they will roll in the same track. Without them, each die would randomly start it's own rolling track, causing occasional mis-tracking and tooth-space error. Dies can be synchronized with one gear at the center of the head or three gears at the outer side of the dies. In center matching, one gear is mounted on a sliding shaft. During rolling, the gear is pushed back against a spring, into the mounting shank. When the part retracts, the spring returns the gear to the correct position. External matching uses 3 gears around the dies, leaving the center open to roll longer parts. The smaller heads use center matching gears. Either type can be used in the larger heads (choose one type when ordering a head).
